Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development: Approaches and Analyses in the Web of Science

Objective: To analyze how Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been applied in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), based on scientific publications indexed in the Web of Science database.
Method: This is a qualitative, bibliographic, and exploratory study based on a bibliometric analysis using Web of Science. The search included the terms "artificial intelligence", "AI", "SDG", and "sustainable development goals", limited to open access publications.
Results: A total of 25 relevant open-access publications were found from 2020 to 2024. The year 2021 stood out with eight publications, and as of July 2024, six studies had already been published. The articles show that AI plays an important role in supporting decision-making, optimizing processes, and providing innovative solutions in health, environment, education, and infrastructure—contributing directly to the achievement of the SDGs.
Conclusion: AI emerges as a strategic tool for sustainable development and is increasingly present in research focused on the SDGs. However, its application must be guided by ethical, inclusive, and regulatory principles to mitigate social and environmental risks.
